From a university volunteer network to disaster response coordination.
I developed and managed this project during my time at İnönü University. With TÜGVA as a project partner, it aimed to build a trained volunteer network and mobilise that capacity during disasters.
Purpose and approach
To establish a sustainable volunteer structure supported by training, preparedness and coordination.
My responsibilities
Project development and management; building the volunteer network, organising activities and coordinating field work.
From training to field operations
Of the 600-person network, 250 volunteers had completed training by May 2022. During the February 2023 earthquakes, 170 volunteers were active in field operations across Malatya, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman and Gaziantep. I worked for 70 days on tent settlement setup and logistics in Malatya.
